Joseph Haruna Kigbu, the former lawmaker representing Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was abducted by suspected bandits on Monday while en route to Jos.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. between Nunku in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and Gwantu in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
During the attack, the kidnappers shot the police escort assigned to Kigbu when he attempted to resist the abduction.
Eyewitnesses reported to Vanguard that the bandits fired their weapons indiscriminately, creating panic among motorists in the vicinity.
Local villagers confirmed the incident and noted that the area has long been a hotspot for criminal activities.
The abduction of Dr. Kigbu and the death of the police escort highlight the ongoing security challenges faced by the region, prompting residents to call for a greater security presence.
