A drunk driver who fatally crashed into a newlywed on her wedding night has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Jamie Lee Komoroski, 26, appeared shocked as the judge imposed her sentence after she pleaded guilty to reckless homicide in Charleston, South Carolina, on Monday, following the April 2023 death of Samantha Miller, 34.
According to the Daily Mail, the judge sentenced her to 25 years for the reckless homicide charge, along with 15 years for two DUI charges involving great bodily injury, and 10 years for a felony DUI charge, all to be served concurrently.
Miller’s husband, Aric Hutchinson, sustained serious injuries after Komoroski struck them while he and his wife were riding a golf cart following their nuptials at Folly Beach.
“On the night of April 22, 2023, I chose to drink and drive, which resulted in the death of Samantha Miller,” Komoroski told the court.
“This is the worst decision I have ever made in my life. Because of my poor choices, a beautiful wife, sister, and mother was taken… all I can express is how incredibly remorseful I am.”
Komoroski apologised to the family, stating that she would always live with the shame of her actions.
“I want them to know how sorry I am from the bottom of my heart and that I take full responsibility for what I’ve done. I will always be devastated, deeply ashamed, and terribly sorry,” she said.
