Multiple explosions have shaken the Dansadau District of the Maru local government area in Zamfara State, heightening fears of escalating insecurity in the North-West region.
Two explosive devices detonated on Friday along the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele Roads within the Dansadau District. Reports indicate that passengers in a truck bound for the Dansadau weekly market narrowly escaped death when their vehicle, loaded with grain, triggered one of the explosives.
Residents confirmed the incidents, noting that the two blasts occurred simultaneously but, fortunately, resulted in no casualties. “The passengers in the truck were lucky to survive; the explosion only damaged the vehicle,” one resident recounted.
This latest incident marks the third time in a week that explosive devices have been planted along roads in the Dansadau area by terrorists, intensifying concerns about public safety.
On Wednesday, a devastating explosion killed 12 occupants of a car when an explosive device detonated under a bridge in Yar Tasha village, triggered as a commercial vehicle passed over it.
The incident, which took place around 8 a.m., left the local community in shock. Residents described the aftermath as harrowing, with many urgently calling for enhanced security measures.
A similar attack occurred the previous Sunday when an 18-seater bus drove over a planted explosive. The blast claimed the life of the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The Zamfara State Police Command has linked the recent spate of explosions to a newly identified terror group known as Lakurawa. State Police Commissioner Muhammad Shehu Dalijan announced on Wednesday that the group’s increasing activity in the region is responsible for the attacks.
“This group has been targeting innocent civilians and commuters by planting explosives along major highways,” Dalijan stated.
The rising frequency of these incidents has left residents in fear, with many demanding immediate action from security agencies to restore peace to the region.
