The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri chapter, is celebrating the appointment of Michael Ikeogwu, a veteran journalist and former chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council, as Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State.

In a Press Release signed by Victor Okpomor and Edeki Igafe, Chairman and Secretary respectively of the union, on Monday, 9th December 2024, he urged Ikeogwu to deploy his wealth of experience to bear, adding that the news of his appointment did not come to them a surprise.

“We urged you to deploy your wealth of experience garnered in the pen profession as well as in your various leadership positions in the NUJ to bear and contribute your quotas to the overall development of Delta State.

“The NUJ, Warri Correspondents Chapel assures you of her maximum support and cooperation in the discharge of your new responsibilities.

“We express gratitude to Almighty God for the privilege to serve in this capacity and pray God to grant you the strength and wisdom to discharge your duties effectively.

“While wishing you more elevations, we thanked our amiable State governor, Rt. Hon.
Sheriff Oborevwori for appointing one of us into the exalted position.

“Going forward, we assure the State Government of our maximum support and cooperation”.

Ikeogwu’s appointment has been widely praised by his colleagues, who describe him as highly experienced and competent. As a former chairman of the NUJ Delta State Council, Ikeogwu has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a deep understanding of the media landscape in Delta State.
