The seat of Dennis Idahosa, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has been declared vacant.
This declaration was made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
Idahosa, who represented the Ovia Federal Constituency in the House, was elected Deputy Governor of Edo State alongside Governor Monday Okpebholo in the September 21 governorship election. Both were sworn into their respective offices on November 12.
However, House Leader Julius Ihonvbere, in a letter read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, called for Idahosa’s seat to be declared vacant. He also urged the House to initiate the process of electing a replacement for the lawmaker now serving as Deputy Governor.
Following this declaration, the number of vacant seats in the House has increased to four. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to conduct fresh elections to fill these vacant positions.
