Abia-North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of the APC has been honoured with the Senate Press Corps Award for Constituency Development, marking his third consecutive win for consistently delivering infrastructure projects in his Senatorial District.

Kalu was selected as the overall best from a pool of 108 colleagues at this year’s Senate Press Corps Award ceremony, held on Monday at the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

The Apex Media Body of the National Assembly commended Kalu for his unwavering dedication to executing crucial infrastructure projects across the Abia-North Senatorial District, alongside his commitment to human empowerment.

The event saw the attendance of the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who was represented by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, along with other distinguished Senators.

This win marks the third occasion that the former Governor of Abia State has received this award, having previously triumphed in 2021 and 2022.

Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, Mr. James Itodo, explained that Kalu’s award was attributed to his continued execution of numerous development projects and empowerment programmes benefitting his constituents.

Itodo further highlighted Kalu’s effective and results-oriented representation at the Federal level, describing it as a benchmark for responsive and responsible governance since the notion was introduced during the 4th Assembly.

Due to his commitment to infrastructure and human empowerment in his Constituency, Kalu, who chairs the Senate Committee on Privatisation, has garnered multiple accolades from esteemed organisations. These include the “Honorary Fellowship Award” from the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) and the “Progressive Leadership Award” from the pro-democracy group, Progressive Movement for Better Nigeria, among others.

In 2022, Kalu was named Best Senator of the Year in the Constituency Projects Award by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) in Abuja.

In legislative actions, according to OrderPaper.ng, Nigeria’s parliamentary multimedia platform, the 64-year-old lawmaker holds the highest rating among Senators from Abia State, with 25 bills to his name, and is ranked second among his fellow former governors in the Senate during the 2019-2022 legislative period.
