The Delta State House of Assembly announced on Tuesday that it would be recalling two members who had been suspended in November for alleged gross misconduct.
The announcement was made during a plenary session in Asaba by the Speaker, Dennis Guwor.
On November 6, Dafe Chukudi (PDP-Ukwuani) was suspended for 14 legislative days due to allegations of gross misconduct, followed by Oboro Preyor (PDP-Bomadi), who received the same 14-day suspension on November 12.
The Speaker stated, āDear colleagues, in light of the allegations of gross misconduct against our suspended members, a committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Arthur Akpowowo, was established to conduct an investigation. The committee has begun its work. However, the 14-day suspension period has now elapsed.
āBy virtue of the confidence you have placed in me as Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and with the conclusion of their suspension period, it is imperative that we recall Dafe Chukudi and Oboro Preyor to resume their duties as members. They are hereby recalled pending the findings of the investigative committee.ā
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Arthur Akpowowo expressed his delight at the lawmakersā recall, stating, āI am very pleased that we have lifted their suspension. The Speaker has recalled them so they can celebrate Christmas with joy and enter the New Year with a sense of relief and happiness. For me, this is a wonderful gift to the party, even though I am not personally affected.ā
