Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo, a cleric of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, has been tragically shot dead in Anambra State by unidentified gunmen.
This information was revealed in a statement signed by the Chancellor of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Raphael Ezeogu, and shared with the press on Friday, December 27, 2024.
According to the statement, “the Catholic priest was shot on Thursday evening by the unknown assailant, who attacked him along the Ihiala section of the Onitsha-Owerri Road.”
The Diocesan Chancellor further disclosed that, at the time of his death, “the murdered 40-year-old priest, who was from the Ekwulumili community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, served as the Manager of the Nursing, Midwifery, and Medical Laboratory programmes at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala.”
“We ask for your prayers and Holy Masses for his eternal peace. May Fr. Tobias dwell in Paradise forever. May God provide comfort to those he has left behind. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course,” he concluded.
