A fire has devastated the well-known Odenigbo Nsukka Deeper Life Church, which caught blaze around 1 PM on December 28, 2024, in the university town of Nsukka.

Local residents were thrown into chaos and speculation about the cause of the inferno, as nearby shops were reduced to ashes in the flames.

According to Vanguard, many shops were destroyed by the inferno. It was the Wilson Fire Service, a private firefighting company, that ultimately brought the raging fire under control.

Vanguard also noted that a contingent of police officers was present to assist in managing the situation, as shop owners mournfully gathered the remnants of their salvaged goods while lamenting their losses.

Some victims, speaking on the condition of anonymity, remarked that the exact cause of the fire remained unknown, although it had consumed over ten shops—including a motorcycle repair shop situated in front of the Deeper Life Church.

Another affected individual stated that the firefighting efforts of Wilson Agbo, also known as Son of Paddy, helped bring the fire under control, but the church’s property and other assets worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Fortunately, Vanguard reported no casualties from the fire at the University of Nsukka, though it was noted that not a single item belonging to the church was saved from the blaze.

Attempts to reach the Enugu State Fire Service and Chinedu Asogwa, the chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council, were unsuccessful.

As of this report, the cause of the fire outbreak remained unconfirmed, with some individuals suggesting that a power surge may have been the catalyst for the tragic event.
