In a bid to empower traders in Abia Central markets to reach their full potential and achieve greater prosperity without obstacles—even those posed by darkness—Senator Austin Akobundu, the District’s representative in the National Assembly, has installed a new set of solar-powered streetlights at Ekenwobasi Market in Osisioma Ngwa LGA.

The traders and community members expressed their joy over this initiative, vowing to protect the facilities from vandalism. They commended Senator Akobundu for his effective representation and quality leadership, which have resulted in numerous people-oriented projects across the six LGAs of the senatorial district, as well as the empowerment of constituents.

The traders are particularly enthusiastic about the new streetlights, which will allow them to extend their business hours, provide goods and services to late-night customers, and ultimately boost their sales and profits. In return, they pledged their continued support for Senator Akobundu in all his political endeavors.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Senator Akobundu has implemented such initiatives; he previously installed solar-powered streetlights in Apumiri and Ahiaukwu markets in Umuahia South LGA, Obikabia and Nkwo Nsulu markets in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Ahiaeke market in Umuahia North LGA, Ekeonyeugba market in Mbutu, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, and Ariam and Ndoru markets in Ikwuano LGA, as well as Nkwo Ebe market in Umunkpeyi Nvosi, also in Isiala Ngwa South LGA.

The Senator’s “Light Up the Market Initiative” aims to bring the benefits of democracy closer to his constituents.
