A wedding in Jigawa State has taken a tragic turn after a bride allegedly poisoned food served at the reception.

The incident has left the groom in critical condition and one of the guests dead.

This occurred in the Jahun Local Government Area of the state.

Quoting eyewitnesses, PUNCH reports that the bride’s actions may have stemmed from a personal vendetta.

Speaking to PUNCH on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway.

“We received reports that the bride tainted the food served at the wedding reception, resulting in the groom’s critical illness.

“Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged food poisoning that took place during the wedding ceremony,” Adam said.

He disclosed that the suspects include the bride and another woman, both of whom are in custody and being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department.

The police spokesperson added, “We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.”

According to the spokesperson, all wedding guests who consumed the poisoned food have been discharged from the hospital, except for the individual who was confirmed dead.

“The command is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and will provide further details as soon as possible.

“For now, we can confirm that the incident occurred, and we are working diligently to uncover the facts. We urge the public to remain calm and assured that justice will be served,” he concluded.

The identities of the deceased, the groom, and other victims have not been disclosed by the authorities.
