Gunmen, believed to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, have killed two policemen and rustled over 200 cows from Natsini village in the Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The incident occurred on Thursday around 11 pm.

According to local sources, the policemen were stationed at a checkpoint along the Augie/Kangiwa road when more than 50 militants on motorcycles launched their attack, killing two officers before raiding the village to steal the cows.

A resident, Abubakar Augie, informed Weekend Trust that the rustled cattle belonged to a well-known civil servant in the area, identified as Lawali Black.

He stated, “There were over 50 members of the Lakurawa gang on motorcycles. After overpowering the few policemen at the checkpoint, they proceeded to the ranch where the cows were kept and drove them away.”

Local government chairman, Aliyu Gulma, confirmed the incident and reported that the council is currently engaged in a security meeting regarding the matter. He added that the state government has instructed security forces to pursue the terrorists with the aim of recovering the stolen cattle.

At the time of this report, the police command’s public relations officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, was unavailable for comment.
