A tragic explosion at a school in an Abuja suburb has resulted in one fatality and left four others injured, according to PREMIUM TIMES.
A security source reported that the incident occurred around noon on Monday at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu Community, within the Bwari Area Council, approximately 42 kilometres from the city centre of Abuja.
Emergency and security personnel, including the police bomb disposal squad, have arrived at the scene, and the injured victims have been swiftly transported to hospital.
The police have not yet commented on the incident, leaving many details surrounding the explosion unclear. Multiple attempts to reach Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, were unsuccessful.
A security insider indicated, “The deceased student, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was in possession of a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device when it detonated, injuring other students and sparking chaos at the school.” Authorities at the institution could not be contacted for further information.
The source also noted that “the students involved were recently admitted to the school, having resumed on 3rd January 2025.”
