In a show of unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents and the development of his constituency, Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, took time during the New Year season to inspect the ongoing Oloko-Amizi Road project in Ikwuano Local Government Area.

Spearheaded by the Senator and the Austin Akobundu Foundation, this project is part of his broader initiative to create a positive impact across all six local government areas in the district.

The Oloko-Amizi Road project, which spans 7.5 kilometres with a width of 11.3 metres, is set to be a crucial artery connecting Ikwuano to key regions, including Ikot-Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State and the Ngwa axis of Abia State. This route provides a more direct path for travellers and goods, facilitating the exchange of services, reducing transit times, and enhancing trade, cooperation, and harmonious relationships between communities.

During the inspection, a visibly delighted Senator Akobundu praised the contractors for the high quality of work completed thus far, describing the road project as “a lifeline for our people.” He added, “It will open the area to development and serve as an alternative to the often-congested Ikot Ekpene road. The drainage systems, essential for the road’s longevity, are nearly 2 kilometres complete. Once the festivities conclude, we will commence earthworks and asphalting.”

Akobundu continued, “These projects are part of a larger strategy to uplift every local government in the district. My aim is to build a legacy that endures beyond my time in the National Assembly. The Oloko-Amizi Road will yield significant economic and social benefits for our people. It will attract investments and create jobs for our youth, many of whom we are actively equipping with necessary skills for the future. We remain open to partnerships with agencies and organisations that share our vision for sustainable development,” he concluded.

Mr. Emeka Ukandu, a representative from the contracting firm, reassured the public that construction is on schedule, with a strong emphasis on maintaining quality.

Elder Amaobi Chinyere, a local resident, praised the Senator for the road project, noting its potential to revolutionise agricultural trade by connecting farmers to markets. He also commended him for other community-focused projects across the six LGAs in the senatorial district, stating that these initiatives are already making a positive impact in the benefiting communities.

It is worth mentioning that Senator Austin Akobundu officially launched the Oloko-Amizi Road project on November 14, 2024.

With numerous ongoing projects, Senator Austin Akobundu continues to showcase his dedication to empowering his constituents and laying the foundation for a thriving Abia Central.
