The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained ten officers from its Lagos Zonal Command in connection with the alleged theft of missing operational items.
Dele Oyewale, the commission’s spokesperson, confirmed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
He explained that this action forms part of ongoing efforts by EFCC Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede to eradicate corrupt practices within the commission.
The officers were arrested last week following directives from the EFCC boss.
“The officers under investigation are being questioned about operational items they cannot account for,” Oyewale said. “Investigators are making significant progress, and those found culpable will face internal disciplinary measures.”
This comes less than 48 hours the anti-graft commission announced the dismissal of 27 officers as part of its drive to uphold integrity and combat fraud.
Oyewale revealed that these officers were implicated in fraudulent activities and misconduct during 2024.
Their dismissal was approved by the EFCC chairman based on recommendations from the anti-graft staff disciplinary committee.
Olukoyede reiterated the EFCC’s steadfast commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, emphasising that no officer will be exempt from disciplinary action.
