Dozens of enraged students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta (MAPOLY) on Wednesday attacked the convoy of Ogun Deputy Governor Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, successfully immobilising her vehicle.
The students, participating in a road protest and armed with sticks and various objects, vandalised the vehicle, compelling her to temporarily abandon her planned itinerary after blocking the convoy’s route.
This alarming incident took place while Mrs Salako-Oyedele, an engineer, was en route to the 35 Artillery Brigade Alabama in Abeokuta to represent Governor Dapo Abiodun at a reception marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations.
A statement from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr Kayode Akinmade, confirmed the event.
“The agitated protesting MAPOLY students were armed with sticks and other dangerous projectiles. Despite attempts to allow the convoy to pass, the situation escalated when the students realised it was the Deputy Governor, causing them to become even more restless and rush to attack her convoy, effectively immobilising it, despite persuasion from her security personnel and police officers on the scene to remain calm and let the convoy through.
“As a result, her convoy was forced to make an immediate detour to her lodge, allowing the protesting students to pass peacefully before she continued on to the function she was scheduled to attend.
“It is important to note that there was significant disruption to vehicular movement, with some of her security vehicles sustaining damage, and several security operatives were injured while trying to maintain law and order, contrary to reports circulating in the press.”
