Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, who served two terms as the governor of Sokoto State, has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This decision comes as he seeks to devote more time and resources to the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI), a newly established organisation launched recently at Arewa House in Kaduna State.

Bafarawa submitted his resignation letter to the PDP national chairman, Damagum, dated Wednesday, January 8. The letter was officially received at the PDP national secretariat on Monday, January 13.

In his statement, Bafarawa highlighted the potential conflict of interest between his role within the PDP and his leadership of the youth empowerment NGO, which he co-founded in late 2024.

ā€œI will now concentrate on raising awareness for youth entrepreneurship and empowerment initiatives designed to enhance self-productivity, reduce redundancy, and promote self-reliance,ā€ Bafarawa explained in his resignation statement.

Expressing his gratitude for his time with the PDP, Bafarawa conveyed his best wishes to the partyā€™s leadership and future endeavours.
