The troops of the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade eliminated six terrorists in Sokoto and seized weapons in the process.
Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, spokesman for Operation Fansan Yamma, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.
“On January 11, the troops of the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade launched a coordinated offensive against terrorists in Lakurawa, encountering them in the Gudu local government area of Sokoto state.
“During the ensuing firefight, our troops neutralised six terrorists and recovered four AK47 rifles, 160 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a box of 12.7mm ammunition, among other items.
“Tragically, this operation resulted in the loss of five courageous soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice,” Mr Abdullahi stated.
The statement continued, “We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to terrorism in the area and its surroundings to military and security forces.
“We anticipate increased cooperation from community members, as this is vital for the safety and security of our communities.”
