In a significant escalation of military operations against banditry in Northwest Nigeria, combined ground and air forces have intensified their offensive against the stronghold of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, who is now reportedly fleeing. The coordinated assaults focused on strategic locations in Fakai, a well-known enclave within the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, long recognised as a sanctuary for the bandit kingpin and his associates.
According to PRNigeria, the recent military successes result from proactive intelligence sharing and early warning systems, which facilitated the evacuation of civilians from high-risk areas, thereby minimising collateral damage. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conducted a series of precision airstrikes, dismantling key hideouts and significantly weakening Turjiās operational capabilities.
At the same time, elite troops from Operation Hadarin Daji and the special forces unit of Operation Fansan Yamma have strategically positioned themselves along critical escape routes near Badarawa, Chida, Fakai, and surrounding communities. Reports suggest that a considerable number of Turjiās associates, including high-profile lieutenants and possibly family members, were neutralised in these targeted strikes.
Quoting a credible defence intelligence source, PRNigeria further reported that the ongoing operations are part of a deliberate and sustained campaign aimed at the complete eradication of bandit leaders and their networks.
āThis is one of the most decisive military operations in recent times. The era of notorious bandits operating with impunity is coming to an end. Our approach is precise and unwavering,ā the source stated.
The official also emphasised that local political and community leaders have played a crucial role in providing vital intelligence, while the morale of security forces remains at an all-time high.
āWe have implemented a robust early warning system to alert civilians, ensuring that only bandit enclaves are targeted. With strong support from the government and the public, our troops are fully committed to dismantling these criminal strongholds.ā
As military pressure mounts, security analysts believe the sustained air and ground offensives could represent a turning point in Nigeriaās fight against banditry, which has destabilised communities and displaced thousands across the region.
Local residents and officials who also spoke to PRNigeria about the latest developments remain cautiously optimistic, hoping that the ongoing operations will pave the way for lasting peace and security in the affected areas.
