The Pan Yoruba sociopolitical group Afenifere, led by Pa Ayo Adebanjo, has appointed lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi as its new National Organising Secretary.
His appointment was ratified during a general meeting held at Adebanjo’s residence in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State, on Tuesday.
This decision was announced in a communiqué issued after the meeting, jointly signed by Deputy Leader Oba Oladipo Olaitan and National Publicity Secretary Prince Justice Faloye.
“The General Meeting considered and approved the appointment of Barrister Dele Farotimi as the National Organising Secretary of Afenifere,” the statement confirmed.
Farotimi’s appointment comes just 24 hours after esteemed legal figure Aare Afe Babalola agreed to withdraw a defamation suit against him.
Recall that Aare Babalola had taken Farotimi to court, accusing him of defamation in his book titled ‘Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System’.
Farotimi had previously been granted bail in the amount of N30 million by an Ekiti State High Court in Ado-Ekiti, where he was arraigned.
This appointment of Dr. Dele Farotimi as the new Organising Publicity Secretary of the Afenifere, the Apex sociocultural body of the Yoruba race, is an apt testimony to the undiluted principled stature the organisation has been known for over the decades.
It’s, also, a testament to the strong leadership recruitment structure that follows an already known track just as they picked the late Odumosu. These stars emerge from the leftist stock; of moral strong fibre,.impeccable intellects and time-tasted.
They are people you hardly could impugn their integrity, And would always know where they are likely to stand on any regional or national issues. On the side of the people (masses) irrespective of the opinions of the internal or external voices. They have always charted the moral course of the nation beyond ethnic colourations.
It is my hope that their counterparts in other races especially the Oha n’Eze Nd’Igbo could toe the same line of truth and leadership recruitment paths. They, as a matter of fact, exhibit the penchant for appointing (not electing) people of pro-establishment ideas that always play to the gallery of external political power houses against their own very people.
