Fubara addressed residents of the Khana Local Government Area during the commissioning of several health facilities, shortly after the turmoil at the Assembly quarters.

The governor asserted that he had communicated his intention to meet with the lawmakers to Speaker Martins Amaewhule prior to his arrival at the quarters to re-present the 2025 Budget, as directed by the Assembly following the Supreme Court’s verdict on 28 February 2025.

“I still believe they may receive further instructions. If that happens, I am prepared to return any day to resolve this matter,” the governor stated.

Additionally, the Rivers State Government issued a letter informing the House of the governor’s upcoming visit.

On Friday, 28 February 2025, the Supreme Court delivered a series of rulings regarding the ongoing political situation in the oil-rich South-South state.

In a judgement handed down by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye, the five-member panel unanimously dismissed Fubara’s cross-appeal challenging the legitimacy of the House of Assembly overseen by Amaewhule as Speaker.

In rejecting Fubara’s appeal, the court ordered Amaewhule to resume sessions immediately with the other elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The apex court also prohibited the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Accountant General of the Federation, and other agencies from disbursing funds to the Government of Rivers State until it rectifies its “flagrant disobedience” to court orders.

Moreover, the court declared the local government elections held in the state on 5 October 2024 as invalid.

Fubara subsequently announced his commitment to fully implement the apex court’s rulings and instructed the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to develop plans for new elections.

The electoral commission has scheduled a new local government election in the state for 9 August 2025. In response, the Assembly issued an arrest warrant for RSIEC Chief, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), for failing to appear before the House.

Furthermore, the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, in a letter dated 7 March 2025, requested a meeting with the lawmakers on 10 March 2025 to discuss the re-presentation of the 2025 budget and peace negotiations; however, the Assembly instructed the governor to submit his invitation through the proper channels.
