On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu announced the nomination of Melvin Ayogu to the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, stated that Tinubu has also requested the Senate’s confirmation of Ayogu’s nomination.
In addition to Ayogu, the president has asked the Senate to confirm Nwakuche Ndidi as the controller-general of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Onanuga noted that Tinubu’s requests were communicated in a letter to the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, which was read to lawmakers during the plenary session.
It is worth mentioning that in February 2024, the president had previously nominated Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke, and Olayinka Aliyu to the apex bank’s board.
On February 29, 2024, the Senate confirmed four of these nominees, while Eke declined the offer, citing “conflict of interest.”
Subsequently, on March 13, 2024, reports emerged that the president withdrew Eke’s nomination due to her political ties with the Labour Party.
