Unconfirmed reports indicate that there has been another explosion at an oil facility in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
A local source alleged that the explosion occurred at a manifold connecting a federal pipeline in the Okwawriwa area of ONELGA on Tuesday morning.
The source, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that residents woke up to find a raging fire at the facility, which is located a considerable distance from their homes.
The source noted that the facility transports petroleum products from Seplat, Agip, and Shell, moving oil from ONELGA and parts of Imo State to Brass in Bayelsa State.
This incident comes less than 12 hours after the Trans-Niger Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), which transports oil to Bonny Terminal, was engulfed in flames.
At the time of writing, it could not be determined whether the fires at both facilities were caused by human activity.
However, the police in the state had previously released a statement regarding the incident at qq1 in Gokana LGA, stating that they have launched an investigation into the matter.
The police also reported that they have detained two individuals for questioning regarding the explosion on the Trans-Niger Pipeline.
