The Osun State Government has strongly condemned the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, for proposing a State of Emergency in the state in light of the ongoing dispute concerning local government administration.

Basiru had previously warned Governor Ademola Adeleke to heed the lessons from the crisis in Rivers State, implying that a State of Emergency might be warranted due to resistance against the reinstatement of council chairmen.

In response, Osun’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, characterised Basiru’s comments as “callous, self-centred, and unlawful.” He contended that the political situations in Rivers and Osun are not alike, urging Basiru and the APC to refrain from actions that could undermine the state’s peace in their quest for power.

Alimi denounced Basiru’s call for federal intervention, asserting that Osun is stable and does not require emergency measures.

“Such a call undoubtedly originates from a demented mind, as is the case with Senator Ajibola Basiru. It is worth recalling that he made a similar claim when I questioned him on a national television programme regarding the Yes/No referendum on local government chairmen in Osun state.

“It must be emphasized that Basiru is not alone in holding this senseless and obnoxious view; the entire APC faction and their members in Osun are constantly devising various mischievous strategies to regain control of governance in Osun state. However, with the grace of God and the support of the people of Osun, the administration of Ademola Adeleke will withstand all malevolent machinations against its people-oriented policies.

“Furthermore, we urge our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to see through the antics of politicians like Ajibola Basiru, a rejected and frustrated individual, along with his discredited APC supporters in Osun, and to dismiss their malicious and unfounded call for the declaration of a State of Emergency in Osun.”
