President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
The brief ceremony was held at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday afternoon.
This event followed a meeting between the President, the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the newly appointed administrator.
On Tuesday, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, resulting in the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the members of the State House of Assembly.
In light of the state of emergency, President Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibas (Rtd) to serve as administrator for the next six months.
During his address, the President stated, “In the meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to oversee the affairs of the state in the best interest of the people of Rivers State.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this declaration does not affect the judicial arm of Rivers State, which shall continue to operate in accordance with their constitutional mandate.”
