The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Nnanna Uzor Kalu as a member of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), joining 11 other members.

Previously, the Upper Chamber had postponed Kalu’s confirmation due to a petition against him, making him the first nominee from the south-east.

During Thursday’s plenary session, the Senate unanimously resolved to approve Kalu’s nomination following a report from the ethics committee.

In its report, the committee urged the Senate to “uphold the nomination of Mr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu as Commissioner (South East) in the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and also approve his screening by the Senate Committee on Establishment for confirmation by the Senate.”

President Bola Tinubu appointed the commission members on February 20.

Kalu, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives, is the younger brother of Orji Uzor Kalu, the senator representing Abia North.

The Senate also announced that the chairman of the commission will be Saviour Enyiekere, representing the south-south. Other members include Suleiman Hunkuyi and Yusuf Yusuf from the north-west, Aminu Malle and Alhaji Mahmud from the north-east, Mark Terso and Salihu Balogun from the north-central, Taiwo Oluga and Afeez Ipesa-Balogun from the south-west, Festus Odii from the south-east, and Patrick Giwa and Mary Ekpeyong from the south-south.
