Troops from Sector 7, operating under Operation SAFE HAVEN, have apprehended the suspected killers of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, who was murdered after being kidnapped in Tachira village, Kaura Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.
The Operation spokesperson, Major Samson Zhakom, briefed journalists in Jos on Wednesday, revealing that the suspects were captured during a raid on a village in Lere LGA.
Major Zhakom identified the suspects as Pate Ya’u and Douglas Henry.
He stated, “The suspects were arrested on March 25, 2025, during a raid on the prime suspect’s hideout in Ruga settlement, Warsa-Piti village, Lere LGA of Kaduna State.
“During preliminary investigations, the primary suspect, Pate Ya’u (33), confessed that he was hired by Douglas Henry, who lived in the same house as the slain priest, to carry out the kidnapping. Following this confession, troops conducted a follow-up operation and apprehended Douglas Henry at Agwan Sariki Tachira in Kaura LGA.
“The arrested suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation,” he added.
