Anambra Police Command

Encouraged by the enhanced efforts of the Anambra State Police Command since the appointment of the new Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, a local resident has urged the Inspector General of Police to consider increasing the salaries of officers in the command.

Davis Ihueze, who commented on a post from the command’s social media account, expressed that the officers deserve a pay rise for their significant contributions to combating crime in the state.

Security expert Chima Onwubiko supported this request, highlighting the demanding nature of police work and the necessity of motivating and incentivising officers to perform their duties effectively.

According to Mr. Onwubiko, “Increasing police salaries can yield numerous benefits, including improved morale and motivation, heightened job satisfaction and retention, enhanced performance and productivity, as well as bolstered public trust and confidence in the police.”

He noted that while the decision ultimately does not lie with the Inspector General of Police, he can initiate discussions and escalate the matter to the relevant authorities for appropriate action.
