The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Usman Sagiru, from Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the fatal attack on vigilantes in Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s entourage following the Eid prayers.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 30, at approximately 12:40 pm, as worshippers were dispersing from the Eid praying ground.
According to police reports, Sagiru and other suspects, who remain at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters.
Rabiu later succumbed to his injuries, while another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.
Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the attack and have summoned Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning.
The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its strict prohibition of all Durbar celebrations, warning that violators will face legal repercussions.
Additionally, they reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy towards thuggery (Daba) and any activities that could disrupt public order.
“We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as we strive to maintain peace and security in Kano State,” the statement read.
