Hon Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi, the representative for Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has underscored the importance of peaceful coexistence among his constituents, regardless of their religious beliefs.
Professor Nnamchi made this appeal over the weekend during impromptu visits to various Hausa communities and mosques within his constituency in Enugu.
He stated, “We were all created by one God, and it is no mere accident that we find ourselves in different religions, yet living in the same country.” He urged his Muslim constituents to pray for peace and economic prosperity in Nigeria.
Accompanied by his aides, party leaders, and supporters, the lawmaker further highlighted that the issues of insecurity and insurgency in the country necessitate prayers for divine intervention. He encouraged religious leaders to intensify their prayers for the nation’s well-being.
Professor Nnamchi described Eid al-Fitr as a significant occasion in Islam, noting, “It is a time for self-control, gratitude, and charity following a month of fasting and prayer.”
He donated food items, including bags of rice, clothing, wrappers, mats, and cash gifts to various mosques in the constituency, including the Abakpa Central Mosque, the University of Allied Health Sciences, the Nigeria Airforce Mosque, and the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, among others.
At the Abakpa Central Mosque, he was warmly welcomed by the Chief Imam, Alhaji Bilel, his secretary, Aminu Sani Adam, and many other congregants. The same warmth was shared at the 82 Division, Nigerian Army Mosque, where Chief Imam Eleje Oko Husein and Nuhu Bawa, the CSO, along with other members, received him with enthusiasm.
At the University of Allied Health Sciences, Chief Imam Abdulrasheed Momo Bello presented a plaque to Professor Nnamchi, emphasising that his visit to break the fast with the Muslim community was both symbolic and exciting for everyone.
Similarly, the Chief Imam of the Nigeria Airforce Mosque, Enugu, Flt Lt Musa, conveyed the heartfelt gratitude of his congregation for the lawmaker’s generous donations.
“We appreciate your support, kindness, and commitment to the welfare of all citizens, irrespective of their faith. Your presence today not only reinforces our bond but also serves as a reminder of the importance of togetherness, compassion, and mutual respect,” he affirmed.
