Ahead of the anticipated homecoming and Sallah rally of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Amoka Monday, the chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, has announced the imposition of a curfew throughout the council.
Mr. Amoka said the decision aligns with the state government’s recent ban on political rallies and unregulated gatherings, as declared by Governor Usman Ododo.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Chairman Monday stated that the curfew is intended to uphold the peace currently experienced in the region. He emphasised that any individual who violates the curfew will face legal consequences.
“The curfew, which takes immediate effect, restricts movement and gatherings in designated areas,” Monday said.
“Anyone found loitering or assembling in restricted zones without clearance from the relevant authorities will be arrested and prosecuted.”
Chairman Monday reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and stability of Okehi LGA, asserting that activities likely to disrupt public peace will not be tolerated.
He urged residents to adhere to the directive and cooperate with the security personnel stationed in the area.
“The government ban on political rallies and curfew will maintain peace and curb misinformation in the area and Kogi State at large,” he added.
