Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended the Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Nwachi, and ordered the arrest of six Commissioners for breaching their contract agreements.

The implicated Commissioners are: Professor Omari Omaka (Tertiary Education), Victor Chukwu (Environment), Ifeanyi Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism), Uchenna Igwe (Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters), Moses Ekuma (Health), and Felix Igboke (Project Monitoring).

It has been alleged that the Commissioners and contractors involved have been undermining the governor’s efforts to commemorate his second anniversary in office with the commissioning of 140 Housing Units for the Izzo and Amaze communities.

Concerns have also been raised that some of the commissioners and contractors linked to the project are already evading authorities.

The Chairman of the State Executive Council Committee on the Izzo and Amaze Housing Project, Ilang Donatus, addressed the media in Abakaliki, explaining that the government believes the involved commissioners and contractors have violated the contractual terms set by the state.

“The governor is dissatisfied with the slow progress of work that should have been completed by now. The government has decided to take action against the contractors and commissioners responsible for overseeing these projects.

“As you can see, our governor is a compassionate leader who genuinely cares for the community, which is why he initiated the construction of these homes for victims of the communal conflict.

“He is frustrated by the delay and has ordered the arrest of all commissioners tasked with ensuring the timely completion of the housing units,” Donatus stated.
