The All Progressives Congress governorship primary for the November 8, 2025, gubernatorial election in Anambra State, which was marred by violence, has resulted in Nicholas Ukachukwu being declared the winner after thugs allegedly disrupted the delegate accreditation process.

Ukachukwu emerged as the party’s flag bearer, securing 1,455 votes and decisively defeating his opponent, Valentine Ozigbo, who managed only 67 votes.

This victory sets him up against the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo, who had earlier secured the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ticket on Saturday.

In accepting his nomination, Ukachukwu remarked, “It is with deep gratitude and humility that I accept the outcome of the APC gubernatorial primaries.”

“I extend my heartfelt thanks to the delegates, party faithful, supporters, and the entire APC family for placing their trust in me. This victory is not mine alone, it belongs to every man, woman, and youth who believes in the promise of a better tomorrow.

“Our journey to a greater Anambra has only just begun. Together, we will build a future anchored on progress, unity, and people-centered governance. The real work starts now.”

Ukachukwu had earlier said he was done playing godfatherism in the state, as no one had ever won the Anambra election without his support.

He said, “We shall deliver Anambra to the APC. One thing I want to say here, nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before.

“I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father, no more godfather.”

He further noted that the journey to a greater Anambra has just begun.

“Together, we will build a future that is anchored on progress and people-centred government. The real work starts now,” he added.

Ozigbo was the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2021 Anambra governorship election. He was defeated by Governor Soludo, who garnered 112,229 votes compared to Ozigbo’s 53,807.

Following his electoral loss, Ozigbo switched to the Labour Party in 2022 and subsequently joined the APC in February 2025.
