The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, is set to lead the State Governors Roundtable focused on unlocking opportunities in Enugu and beyond, coinciding with the opening of the 2025 Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit (CTIS) in London on Monday.

This announcement was made in a press release issued by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) over the weekend.

CWEIC, which has an official mandate from the Commonwealth Heads of Government to facilitate trade and investment, boasts a network of over 140 strategic partners from both the public and private sectors, helping to forge vital relationships that drive economic growth and development across the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries.

According to CWEIC, the 2025 CTIS will take place from Monday, April 7, to Tuesday, April 8, at London’s historic Mansion House. This event aims to unite the Commonwealth business community with Heads of Government, senior ministers, and representatives from Commonwealth nations.

“Following the Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF) and Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held in Samoa last October, this summit will serve as a platform to advance discussions, refocus on critical issues, and ensure that Commonwealth business priorities are addressed.

“The summit will include plenary sessions and high-level roundtable discussions, complemented by informal networking opportunities and one-to-one meetings, drawing some of the most prominent figures from the Commonwealth. With over 400 delegates confirmed from more than 40 countries, CTIS 2025 is already oversubscribed, underscoring the Commonwealth’s increasing significance as a global network for trade and investment.

“In his capacity as Governor of Enugu State, HE Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah will attend CTIS and lead the State Governors Roundtable aimed at unlocking opportunities in both Lagos and Enugu States. The roundtable will feature representatives from Acre Capital, Africa Exim Bank, British International Investment, Crown Agents Bank, KPMG, M&G Investments, and Standard Chartered, offering a vital opportunity to share Enugu’s potential with the international business community.

“Confirmed speakers at CTIS include Hon. Lee Kinyanjui (Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, Kenya), Hon. Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Nigeria), HE Dr. Hussain Ali Mwinyi (President of Zanzibar), HE Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Governor of Lagos State), The Rt Hon Alderman Alistair King (Lord Mayor of the City of London), and Hon. Shirley Ayokor Botchwey (Secretary-General of the Commonwealth), alongside ministers from Gibraltar and Jersey.

CTIS 2025 will also feature representatives from major Commonwealth businesses, such as Lloyd’s, Open Capital, Arup, Crown Agents Bank, and Equity Bank Kenya, as well as representatives from prominent public investment organisations, including British International Investment and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The event will be sponsored by Zenith Bank as Anchor Partner and the Government of Cameroon as Supporter.

“Discussions will cover a wide range of pertinent issues, bringing together business leaders and senior policymakers. Sessions will focus on high-level dialogues aimed at reducing barriers to Commonwealth trade, unlocking investment in growth markets, the role of artificial intelligence, and the global energy transition,” CWEIC stated.

Recall that the Mbah Administration in Enugu State and CWEIC signed a strategic partnership agreement last December to accelerate trade and investment inflows to the state.

During the partnership signing ceremony at the Government House in Enugu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CWEIC, Mrs. Rosie Glazebrook, expressed the organisation’s commitment to supporting Governor Mbah’s investment initiatives.

“Our organisation is dedicated to driving trade and investment. We leverage our excellent convening power to benefit our partnership with Enugu State.

“We aim to support and collaborate in showcasing the investment and trade opportunities that Enugu has to offer. Our goal is to identify ways to lower trade barriers and promote investment,” Glazebrook conveyed to state house correspondents during the occasion.
