Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and representative of the Abia North senatorial district, has urged the Inspector General of Police and the Abia State government to promptly apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the murders of two Chinese nationals and a police inspector in Abia State.
The victims were reportedly ambushed by gunmen while travelling in a convoy, escorted by police, to a mining site in Isuikwato, Abia State.
In a statement issued from his media office on Sunday, Kalu condemned the tragic attacks that claimed the lives of the Chinese expatriates and the police officer.
He expressed profound dismay over what he described as deliberate and unprovoked assaults on both the expatriates and law enforcement personnel.
The statement read: “Despite our ongoing efforts to combat insecurity, crime continues to prevail. I vehemently condemn these senseless attacks that resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and a police officer, as well as injuries to several others near the Huan Cheng Mining Quarry in Agukwu Amaya, within the Ndundu community of Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia North Senatorial District.
“I call upon the Inspector General of Police, relevant security agencies, and state authorities to take immediate action to apprehend the killers and ensure they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. It is crucial that robust measures are implemented to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Kalu extended his condolences to the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China and the families affected by this tragedy, urging security agencies to intensify their efforts to safeguard both citizens and expatriates, particularly as the country seeks significant economic growth and development.
