The Anambra State Police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of an 80-year-old woman, Mrs Theresa Igbojonu, in Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala.
A statement by the spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu said rhe suspects, identified as Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, were taken into custody following a thorough investigation initiated after the crime was reported on 2nd April 2025.
According to Ikenga, “Mrs Igbojonu was found tied by her legs and mouth before her tragic death. The investigation led officers to recover a black CG motorcycle, believed to be stolen from the victim, which was spotted being driven by Igboanugo near Ezego junction in Ihiala on 5th April.
“Upon receiving the complaint, our officers acted promptly. The arrest of Chidiebere Igboanugo was a significant breakthrough in the case, particularly after the deceased’s son identified the stolen motorcycle.”
Following his arrest, Igboanugo provided information that resulted in the apprehension of his accomplice, Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, on 7th April. SP Tochukwu added, “The swift action of our security operatives has led to the identification of two additional suspects, known as Alla and Emeka, who are currently at large. We are committed to ensuring they are brought to justice.”
The Commissioner of Police has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any information regarding the suspects still on the run,” SP Tochukwu said.
The suspects are expected to face charges in court once investigations are concluded.
