The Enugu State Police Command has firmly rejected a recent report alleging a “reign of terror” and the killing of 25 individuals by insurgents within the state, labelling the claims as “false, sensational, and mischievous.”

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Command asserted that the allegations are not only misleading but also a deliberate attempt to create panic among the public and undermine the ongoing efforts of the police and security agencies in maintaining peace and security in Enugu State.

“The report in question is entirely baseless,” said SP Ndukwe. “It contains fabricated names and incidents that have never occurred in our jurisdiction. Such speculative reporting lacks credibility and is detrimental to public peace.”

Ndukwe added that, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, while acknowledging the importance of their role in disseminating information condemnied the spread of inaccurate reports. “While we respect the media’s duty to report news, we strongly condemn the circulation of misinformation that misleads the public and incites unnecessary fear,” CP Giwa stated.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the police and other security agencies to combat crime effectively in Enugu State, assuring residents that their safety remains a top priority. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all citizens in Enugu,” he added.

The Enugu State Police Command urges the public to remain calm and vigilant, and to rely on verified information from official sources regarding security matters.
