Senator Yemi Adaramodu, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, has dismissed the efforts of certain political actors to establish a coalition or merger aimed at defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election, labelling them as “content creators.”
Recently, notable figures from opposition parties, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai, have indicated that discussions are underway for a coalition intended to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming election.
Adaramodu, who represents the Ekiti South senatorial district, highlighted that in nearly two years, President Tinubu’s administration has launched programmes and policies that are positively impacting citizens. He commended Tinubu for his decisive economic reforms, which have revitalised the country’s economy, as well as his comprehensive security strategies that have tackled the root causes of insecurity.
Speaking to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti state, on Monday, following the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caucus’s endorsement of the president for a second term in 2027, Adaramodu stated that the APC is not concerned with the movements of opposition figures, viewing them as a form of political entertainment that will not affect the anticipated successes of President Tinubu.
He urged Nigerians not to take the promoters of the 2027 coalition seriously, but instead to remain committed to supporting President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda for the country.
When questioned about the potential coalition’s threats, he responded, “Our party, APC, is not worried. What do you expect politicians to do? They are living to play politics. So, if they are playing politics, do you want them to be clapping for the APC? No.
“They have to attack either through lies and propaganda or through unfathomable falsehoods; they are coming together to climb the mountain that they can’t get to the base.
“We are not worried, and we even expect them to come together; it is to our advantage. Go and look at the weight of those people doing the collation and the platforms; those in PDP, we don’t even know which factions they belong to; those in the Labour Party, we know it is just a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for an election; it is not organic.
“I don’t want to go into personalities, but we know that politicians always play their game, and like I always say, they are creating content, and then we should enjoy it. At this stage, there should be political entertainment for us to laugh at.
“When APC is building roads and delivering dividends of democracy to the people, then we must have some time in the evening to laugh, and we are laughing at their political entertainment called coalition or merger.”
