2023: Labour Party Candidate, Nnamchi Alters Enugu-East/Isi-Uzo Rep Equation
Prof. Paul Nnamchi

A user on X, formerly known as Twitter, by the name of Mechelito@Onyema_7, recently asserted that Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi, the representative for Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, does not address the insecurity issues in Eha-Amufu or share his efforts to benefit his constituents on his X handle, @sunday_nnamchi. This claim was backed by a screenshot of Nnamchi’s X account page.

It is important to emphasise that Professor Nnamchi’s limited online presence does not accurately reflect his significant contributions and efforts. Raised by Catholic priests, he embodies a humble spirit. Prior to entering politics, he was engaged in humanitarian work, offering free computer training to students in his local government area of Enugu East. This initiative, aimed at introducing students to information and communication technology (ICT), has successfully trained over 2,000 students, and he has since extended this programme to include constituents from Isi Uzo following his election to the National Assembly.

Key Achievements:
Scholarships: Nnamchi has provided scholarships to hundreds of underprivileged students from various communities within the constituency, including non-indigenes residing in Enugu East/Isi Uzo. He has also supplied school uniforms for primary school pupils and facilitated employment opportunities for some constituents.

Infrastructure Development: Last year, he invested ₦300 million in solar-powered streetlights for communities in the Enugu East Local Government Area and plans to replicate this initiative in Isi Uzo in 2025.

Education and Healthcare: Nnamchi has constructed and renovated classroom blocks, organised medical outreach programmes, and provided free medical treatments and medications to constituents who are unable to afford them.

Security: On 19 December 2023, he raised a motion regarding the Eha-Amufu killings in the House of Representatives, which led the House to call for the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Army Staff to deploy sufficient security personnel to Eha-Amufu. Additionally, it directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to the affected victims.

In December 2024, Professor Nnamchi issued a strongly worded press statement reminding relevant security agencies of the necessity to enhance their operations in Eha-Amufu. Both the motion and the subsequent press statement following another incident in 2024 received extensive coverage in various online platforms and major newspapers, as evidenced by several publications, including:
– “Lawmakers Seek Urgent Action To Address Insecurity In Enugu State” by Gloria Essien, Abuja (Voice of Nigeria online, 4 December 2024)
– “Enugu attacks: Reps urge FG to intensify efforts against insecurity in S/E” (Vanguard Newspaper, 4 December 2024)
– “Task FG to address insecurity in South East” by Ndubisi Orji (Sun Newspaper, 5 December 2024).

As of March 2025, Nnamchi has sponsored 36 establishment and amendment bills, along with numerous motions. The Order Paper, an authoritative in-house journal of the National Assembly, recognised him as the most effective legislator from the Southeast in 2024¹.

We want to reassure the aforementioned user on X that all of Hon. Professor Nnamchi’s social media accounts will henceforth be utilised effectively to keep constituents like him informed about Professor Nnamchi’s legislative and constituency activities.
