Senator Austin Akobundu, representing the Abia Central Senatorial District, has expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis on Easter Monday, describing it as both shocking and a significant loss to the world.
In his reaction to the news of the Holy Father’s death, Senator Akobundu stated that the Pope died at a time when the world needed his wisdom, pro-people policies, and insightful pronouncements the most. He lamented the loss of a great leader who served as a moral compass in a world increasingly bereft of ethics and who provided spiritual guidance to countless individuals.
“Pope Francis was not only a Pope who was compassionate to the poor but openly associated with them, fiercely defending the oppressed and was also a voice for the voiceless,” the Senator remarked.
“He will be sorely missed.”
As he concluded his tribute, the Senator offered a heartfelt prayer: “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
