President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria today following his visits to France and London. This announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a post on his X handle on Monday.

Onanuga stated, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return home today.”

President Tinubu embarked on a “short working visit” to Paris, France, on April 2. During his time abroad, Onanuga indicated that the President would evaluate his administration’s midterm performance and assess key milestones.

“He will also use the retreat to review the progress of ongoing reforms and engage in strategic planning ahead of his administration’s second anniversary. This period of reflection will inform plans to deepen ongoing reforms and accelerate national development priorities in the coming year,” he added.

Onanuga also mentioned that while the President was away, he remained fully engaged with his team and continued to oversee governance activities, assuring that he “will return to Nigeria in about a fortnight.”

However, after facing criticism from opposition figures regarding the President’s two-week absence amid ongoing security concerns, the Presidency clarified on April 17 that President Tinubu was actively engaged in Nigeria’s governance, despite being in Europe.

Onanuga reiterated, “His absence remains temporary and in line with the communicated timeframe of approximately two weeks. His return to Abuja and the resumption of duties at Aso Villa will follow the conclusion of the Easter holiday.”

The Presidency concluded by expressing appreciation for the concerns raised by Nigerians, affirming that “the President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership.”
