President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently engaged in a significant security meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, at his official residence within the State House in Abuja.

This high-level discussion follows the President’s recent return from a 19-day working trip to Europe and is set against the backdrop of escalating insecurity in various parts of Nigeria, particularly in the North-Central region.

Reliable sources suggest that President Tinubu is receiving direct briefings from his senior security officials regarding the worsening situation in states such as Plateau and Benue, which have been plagued by relentless attacks from suspected foreign militias leading to mass casualties and widespread displacement.

In the past two weeks alone, over 200 lives have reportedly been lost to violent assaults, with entire communities being overrun and survivors compelled to flee. In Plateau State, between March 28 and April 14, at least 106 individuals were killed in the Bokkos and Bassa local government areas. Specific incidents include the tragic deaths of 52 residents in Zike and Kimakpa, and 54 in Zikke Kimakpa.

Benue State has also endured similar tragedies, with at least 44 fatalities reported during the same timeframe in locations such as Otobi Akpa (13 deaths), Ikobi (3), Gwer West (2), and Mbasombo (3). On April 19, Governor Hyacinth Alia confirmed an additional 20 deaths following coordinated attacks in the Logo and Ukum local government areas.

Governor Alia has expressed concern over the identity of the attackers, noting that many do not speak any known Nigerian language, which raises suspicions that they may be foreign mercenaries or infiltrators.

It remains uncertain whether other heads of security and intelligence agencies have joined the meeting; however, there are high expectations that this closed-door session will lead to critical decisions aimed at curbing the violence and restoring safety to the affected communities.

As of the time of this report, the presidency has yet to issue an official statement.
