The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnap victim who was taken on Tuesday from Umuege village, Amawbia, in the Awka area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement released on Wednesday in Awka.

Ikenga stated that the rescue operation was conducted by officers from the Central Police Station, Awka, following prompt action based on credible intelligence.

According to Ikenga, “the officers launched a chase and strategically positioned themselves, forcing the kidnappers—who were operating with an unmarked Sienna vehicle—to abandon the victim at Umunya, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, before fleeing the scene.”

The victim was subsequently rescued unharmed and has since been debriefed by the authorities for further action.

Ikenga further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

This operational success follows the recent launch of Operation “Udo-Gachi Zero Kidnapping” on April 14, an initiative designed to eliminate kidnapping and ensure the safety of residents and visitors across the state.
