In a significant move to combat youth unemployment and foster inclusive economic growth, the Enugu SME Centre has announced the launch of the Nkwado Oha Skills Development Programme.

This groundbreaking initiative which will commence in July, 2025, aims to train over 500 young men and women in essential vocational skillsets, focusing particularly on critical technical construction trades such as plumbing, masonry, tiling, electrical installation, welding, and carpentry.

“This programme is a vital step towards equipping our youth with the skills they need to thrive in today’s job market,” said the Director of the Enugu SME Centre, Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah.

“By focusing on technical and vocational education, we are not only addressing unemployment but also building a robust workforce that meets the demands of our growing infrastructure and housing sectors.”

The Nkwado Oha initiative, which is being implemented in partnership with GIZ SKYE and Godfrey Okoye University, is part of a comprehensive state-wide strategy to revolutionise skills development and job creation in Enugu.

Hon. Chilo-Offiah added that the training aligns with the forthcoming operationalisation of the Enugu Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board, which will oversee all TVET institutions in the state, ensuring standardisation, quality control, and scalability.

“The Nkwado Oha programme is about more than just training; it’s about empowering our youth, igniting entrepreneurship, and restoring dignity through skill,” emphasised a spokesperson from GIZ SKYE.

“We believe that by investing in our young people, we are not only enhancing their livelihoods but also positioning Enugu as a national hub for skilled labour and innovation.”

As the programme prepares to commence, the Enugu SME Centre is optimistic that Nkwado Oha will transform youthful energy into productive power, ultimately contributing to a sustainable economic future for the state.
