The spirit of Easter resonated throughout Rivers State as Governor Siminalayi Fubara demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the people by distributing generous gifts to all 319 wards. Each ward received a cow and one million Naira, a gesture that has been met with overwhelming gratitude and celebration across the local government areas.
The festivities were highlighted at the Simplified Movement State Secretariat in Port Harcourt, where prominent political leaders gathered to express their appreciation for the Governor’s leadership.
Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie addressed attendees, stating, “This event is not just a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ but also a moment to reflect on the compassionate leadership of our Governor. His decision to ensure every ward and household feels the Easter spirit is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of Rivers people.”
The joyful celebrations echoed across the 23 local government areas, including Asari-Toru, PHALGA, Ikwerre, Ahoada West, and ONELGA.
In Asari-Toru LGA, a vibrant celebration took place in Buguma City. Rt. Hon. Orolosama Peter Amachree, the former CTC Chairman, expressed heartfelt gratitude: “This gesture reminds us that our Governor is not only a leader but a father figure. His love for the Kalabari people is visible in the multi-billion Naira Trans-Kalabari Road and ongoing infrastructure projects like the Buguma-Abalama-Degema-Abonnema Road. The Egyptian we see today, we shall see them no more. Our people’s Governor shall return to the Brick House.”
In ONELGA, the wards of Ndoni Zone 13, 14, and 15 celebrated the distribution of the Governor’s Easter largesse. Dr Adaeze Chidinma Odili Oreh, a political leader in Ndoni District, bolstered the Governor’s gifts by providing additional cows, bags of salt, and bottles of groundnut oil to the wards.
The Easter festivities culminated in a grand finale prayer and empowerment event on 23 April 2025, where nearly 200 women gathered to pray for Nigeria, Rivers State, and Governor Fubara. Prince Isaac Umejuru, who visited all 17 wards of ONELGA, noted the palpable excitement and unity among the people towards the Governor.
Meanwhile, on 19 April 2025, leaders of the Simplified Movement in Port Harcourt Local Government Area reaffirmed their support for Governor Fubara, despite his current suspension. They condemned the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State and sought the reinstatement of the Governor. “We urge the President to lift the suspension and reinstate the Governor,” they declared, acknowledging his generous Easter gifts.
In Obio-Akpor LGA, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo praised the Governor’s goodwill, particularly highlighting the recent award of the contract for Oro-Igwe Road, reinforcing the belief that “the Governor will soon return to govern the State.”
Ikwerre LGA witnessed a large turnout of women dressed in red and white, affirming their dedication to prayer for the Governor’s return. Celebrations were also vibrant at the residence of Sir Mike Elechi, where leaders and supporters of the Governor pledged their unwavering commitment.
Ahoada West LGA celebrated with a distribution ceremony at its headquarters, where Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari commended the Governor for his inclusive approach. “We’re grateful for a leader who sees everyone as one,” he stated, adding a personal contribution of one million Naira and a cow for non-indigene residents.
This year’s Easter celebration in Rivers State has been marked not only by religious reflection but also by a renewed sense of hope and solidarity among the people. Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s generous gesture has left an indelible impression, reinforcing his identity as a leader who leads with love and listens with intent.
As Rivers State continues to celebrate the Governor’s contributions, citizens are calling on the President to expedite his reinstatement, so that ongoing projects across the local government areas can be completed.
