Enugu State hosted a pivotal regional stakeholders’ engagement on the draft National Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, a significant initiative aimed at shaping Nigeria’s digital landscape.
The event, organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, brought together a diverse group of policymakers, technology experts, entrepreneurs, academics, and civil society representatives to review and provide crucial input on the bill.
Mr. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, Special Adviser to the Governor on MSMEs and Digital Economy and Director-General of the Enugu SME Center, led the state’s delegation. He highlighted the importance of the engagement, stating, “Our participation underscores Enugu State’s commitment to fostering innovation and enhancing digital service delivery, ensuring we are ready for the future economy.”
During the discussions, Chilo-Offiah elaborated on the state’s strategic initiatives, which include significant investments in broadband infrastructure, digital skills training, and the empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). “These efforts align with the national vision of creating a digitally inclusive and transparent Nigeria. We are dedicated to operationalising state-wide e-governance platforms that will transform public service delivery,” he added.
Key topics addressed during the session included the expansion of digital infrastructure, strengthening of cybersecurity measures, enhancement of data privacy protocols, and the promotion of efficient digital government services. The discussions aimed to unlock new opportunities for startups and MSMEs within Nigeria’s burgeoning digital economy.
The engagement reflects the vision of Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who aims to position Enugu as a leader in technology and innovation. “Our ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology is crucial in driving programmes that empower citizens and support businesses across the state,” stated Chilo-Offiah.
As the consultation process continues, Enugu’s contributions are set to play a vital role in ensuring that the final bill promotes innovation, inclusion, and sustainable economic growth for the entire nation. With a clear focus on a digital future, Enugu State is taking significant strides in leading Nigeria towards a technologically advanced society.
