In response to earlier reports claiming that 26 individuals lost their lives in an incident involving an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the Maiduguri-Damboa Road, the military has clarified the details surrounding the tragic event that occurred on 29th April 2025.
A terse statement the military stated that troops from the 25 Brigade Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team were conducting a road dominance patrol and escort mission for civilians when they encountered the IED at approximately 4:30 pm. The official statement confirms that two soldiers paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, while one other soldier sustained injuries.
A military spokesperson stated, “We wish to clarify that the earlier reports of 26 fatalities were incorrect. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the two soldiers who lost their lives. Their bravery in the face of danger exemplifies their dedication to protecting civilians and maintaining security in the region.”
