The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release Aisha Achimugu, a notable socialite and businesswoman, within 24 hours.

In a brief ruling on Wednesday, Justice Inyang Ekwo instructed that all parties involved in the case, particularly the EFCC, must return to court on 2 May to provide an update on compliance with the court’s order.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that EFCC operatives brought Achimugu to the court on Wednesday as mandated. Achimugu was escorted by two female EFCC officers and arrived at the court at approximately 11:35 am.

Previously, on Monday, Justice Ekwo had ordered the industrialist, who is alleged to have fled the country, to respond to the EFCC’s invitation on Tuesday at 12 noon. The judge also stated that upon Achimugu’s appearance at the EFCC’s office, she should be returned to court on Wednesday for further proceedings.

However, it has been reported that Achimugu was arrested by EFCC operatives upon her arrival abroad at around 5 am and has since been held in custody.
