Traditional ruler congratulates Engr. Ben Udeh, applauds peaceful town union election
His Royal Majesty, Igwe Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr, Ubojene II of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has lauded Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for what he described as a landmark intervention that restored peace and leadership to a community long fractured by decades of division.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, May 10, 2025, the traditional ruler praised the governor’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development and traditional institution building, crediting him with facilitating the peaceful election of a President General and the formal recognition of a traditional ruler in Ogugu Ntu-egbenese—both of which had not occurred in over 25 years.
“This accomplishment was once thought impossible. For more than two decades, Ogugu Ntu-egbenese struggled without a President General or a recognized traditional ruler. Today, thanks to Governor Mbah’s intervention and support, our people can now enjoy true representation and peace,” the Igwe said.
Engr. Ben Udeh Elected as President General
The monarch extended heartfelt congratulations to Engr. Ben Udeh, who emerged as President General of the Ogugu Progressives Union General Assembly (OPUGA) in an election held on Saturday, May 9, 2025, at Ogugu Central School Field, Amanabo.
“His emergence is a clear show of confidence and support from the people,” Igwe Ogbonna said. “Engr. Udeh’s leadership journey has been one of service, and he now has the mandate to serve at a greater level.”
Highlighting Udeh’s track record in community service, the monarch expressed strong optimism that the new leadership would deliver on the people’s expectations.

“I believe his commitment to community growth and his understanding of our challenges will bring positive changes in the years to come,” he added.
Government’s Role in Peace and Governance
The traditional ruler also praised the Enugu State Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Chieftaincy Matters, led by Deacon Okey Ogbodo, for its proactive and fair handling of the community’s affairs, which, according to him, played a major role in the successful outcome of the town union election.
“Their proactive approach and fairness in handling matters affecting our people have contributed immensely to the peace and order we now enjoy,” he stated.
According to the monarch, the ministry’s involvement in ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process restored confidence in governance at the grassroots level.
Recognition of Governor Mbah’s Grassroots Impact
Igwe Ogbonna reserved special praise for Governor Peter Mbah, describing him as “a visionary leader” who is committed to inclusive development, peacebuilding, and the restoration of community structures.
“Governor Mbah’s leadership has brought peace to Ogugu Ntu-egbenese, a community that had known division for decades. His sincere desire to see communities like ours prosper has made this transformation possible,” he declared.
The monarch added that the peaceful election and traditional leadership now in place have rekindled a sense of identity and pride among the people of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese.
“We are truly grateful. The people of Ogugu are experiencing a renewed sense of unity and identity,” he said.

Call for Unity and Support
In the closing part of his statement, the monarch issued a call to action for all sons and daughters of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese, both at home and in the diaspora.
“I call on all well-meaning indigenes to rally behind the newly elected President General and his executives. Now is the time to embrace peace and unity for the progress of our land,” he urged.
Igwe Ogbonna also reaffirmed his palace’s commitment to stability, development, and strategic collaboration with government institutions.
“My palace will continue to offer guidance, cooperation, and leadership in ensuring that Ogugu Ntu-egbenese moves forward in harmony and with purpose,” he affirmed.
