As Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi marks his second year in the House of Representatives, his tenure has been distinguished by an impressive legislative record and numerous development-driven initiatives across Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency.
Elected on the platform of “Let’s Do It Better,” Rep. Nnamchi has proven critics wrong by transforming his campaign slogan into a reality. Two years into office, he has sponsored a record 52 bills and 20 motions, focusing on key sectors including education, health, technology, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
Legislative Milestones
Rep. Nnamchi’s primary mandate as a lawmaker has been the driving force behind his efforts in sponsoring bills that address national and local challenges. Some of the notable bills he sponsored include:
- The Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition (Ikem, Enugu State) Bill
- The Federal University of Aviation Technology, Ako-Nike Bill
- The Federal Medical Centre Act (Amendment) Bill
- The Nigeria Ports and Harbours Authority Bill
- A bill to establish the National Institute for Renal Disease and Research, Akpugo
- Amendments to the Immigration Act, Labour Act, Criminal Code, Universal Basic Education Act, and more.
Several of these bills have progressed through legislative stages, with a few already transmitted for Presidential assent.
His legislative contributions earned him national recognition from OrderPaper, Nigeria’s premier parliamentary monitoring group, which rated him as the best performing legislator from the South-East region.
Education and Youth Empowerment
Professor Nnamchi has prioritized education, awarding tertiary scholarships to over 200 students in his constituency. He has constructed classroom blocks, provided school furniture, and distributed uniforms to pupils in primary schools.
To bridge the digital divide, he initiated annual ICT training programs for secondary school students. Originally focused on Enugu East during his days at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the program now includes Isi Uzo LGA and is supported by the newly established ICT Centre in Enugu East Area Council.
Healthcare and Community Welfare
In response to rising health challenges, Rep. Nnamchi conducted six medical outreaches in 2024 alone. These programs provided residents with medical consultations, drug distribution, eye treatments, and eyeglasses—all free of charge.
To enhance safety and improve night-time security, he facilitated the installation of solar-powered streetlights across several communities in the constituency.
Community Support and Inclusiveness
In recognition of the rising cost of living, Rep. Nnamchi has maintained a tradition of distributing food and essential items during festive seasons to both Christian and Muslim communities—demonstrating his commitment to inclusivity and social responsibility.
A Standard for Effective Representation
Rep. Nnamchi’s approach to legislative work has set a new standard for effective representation in Enugu East/Isi Uzo. His blend of lawmaking, community empowerment, and development projects reflect a comprehensive vision for constituency transformation.
“It was on account of lawmaking that OrderPaper, the National Assembly journal, adjudged Professor Nnamchi the best performing legislator from the Southeast region,” his media team stated. “His record is not just about the number of bills but the relevance and impact they are poised to deliver.”
Looking Forward
As Rep. Nnamchi continues his work in the House of Representatives, constituents and observers alike await further progress from a legislator whose first two years have been marked by uncommon commitment, verifiable accomplishments, and a promise kept.
In the words of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi: “Go and verify.” But Rep. Nnamchi’s media team insists: “If you are in doubt, check it out.”
